Perception of mythology, symbols, and geography can forge and change the fundamental nature of a place or object. Merging and juxtaposing contextually different places or ideas with meteorological elements creates a new perception (experience) for the viewer. For example, the incorporation of ancient mythology in relation to contemporary events or hurricane flags in a snowdrift creates a new context in which the information is interpreted. Integrating the past with the present allows for the symbols and original mythology to be redefined and allows a visual narrative to be made between the work and the viewer. -February 2008 |
